The Sports Authority of India, Sports Training Centre (SAI STC) Dimapur, in collaboration with Indian Railways, Dimapur, and The GearThrills Cycling Club, organized the “FIT India Sundays on Cycle” event.

 

This initiative is part of the nationwide FIT India Movement, which was launched on December 17, 2024, by Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. Aligned with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision, the event aims to promote fitness, combat obesity, and encourage a healthier and greener India.

 

The theme for this edition was “Railways,” highlighting the significant role of Indian Railways in nation-building and sustainable transportation.
The cycling rally commenced at Dimapur Railway Station, where it was officially flagged off by Dr. V. Mathew, Dimapur Medical Officer (DMO), and Amritesh Kumar Singh, Station Superintendent (SS) of Indian Railways, Dimapur. The event saw enthusiastic participation from cyclists and fitness advocates, underscoring the importance of physical activity and environmental sustainability.

The Indian junior women’s hockey team started their European tour on a high note, securing a 3-2 victory against Belgium on Sunday at the Hockey Center of Excellence in Antwerp. This exciting win marks a strong beginning for the team’s preparations for the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2025.


Match Highlights: India’s Resilient Performance

The match was a closely contested affair, with India drawing first blood thanks to Geeta Yadav’s goal in the 11th minute. Belgium, however, quickly responded, with Marie Goenns leveling the score in the 25th minute, followed by Louise van Hecke putting the hosts ahead in the 34th minute.


Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team Begins European Tour with Thrilling Win Over Belgium, the Indian team fought back fiercely. Sonam brought India back into the game with an equalizer in the 40th minute. The continuous pressure from the Indian side paid off when Lalthantluangi converted a penalty corner in the 45th minute, securing the decisive goal. The Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team then held strong, denying Belgium any further scoring opportunities and clinching the win.


European Tour Schedule and World Cup Preparations

This European tour follows a promising outing at the Four Nations Tournament in Rosario, Argentina, where the Indian team gained valuable experience against tough competition. In Argentina, they secured a 2-1 win and a 2-2 (2-3 SO) loss against Chile, achieved a 1-1 (2-0 SO) win and a 2-4 loss against hosts Argentina, and defeated Uruguay twice with scores of 3-2 and 2-2 (3-1 SO). These matches were crucial for handling high-pressure situations and adapting to various playing styles.


The Indian team’s European schedule includes three matches against Belgium in Antwerp. Following their games in Belgium, they will face Australia at the Beerschot Tennis Hockey Padel Club in Kontich, concluding their tour with a match against the Netherlands at Hockey Club Kampong in Utrecht.

These matches are an integral part of India’s comprehensive training regimen for the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2025, set to be held in Santiago, Chile, in December 2025.
