A major highlight was the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kochi Prefecture, designed to facilitate human resource exchange, unlock employment opportunities for Naga youth in Japan, bolster capacity building, and enable agri-tech transfer. This agreement is particularly significant given Japan’s advanced agricultural practices and the potential for technological infusion into Nagaland’s agrarian economy.
Another crucial pact was the MoU with ARMS Incorporation, signed between the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) and ARMS chairman Masayoshi Hamajima. This collaboration is set to promote cooperation in human resource development and sports, aligning with Nagaland’s focus on nurturing its youthful population. Chief Minister Rio also underscored the vital role of the Centre of Excellence for Foreign Languages in Nagaland, which aims to train Naga youth in Japanese, thereby expanding their global employability and bridging potential language barriers.
Beyond formal agreements, the delegation engaged with the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF), where discussions with Executive Director Dr. Nobuko Kayashima explored avenues for youth and student exchange programmes and upcoming policy dialogues. Meetings with prominent animation figures, including Erie Watanabe, Taeaki Tanaka (AXON), and Toyonaga Hitomi (Eclat Animal), highlighted Japan’s world-renowned expertise in this sector. Notably, the legendary artist Toshiyuki Honda, creator of the iconic Doraemon, presented his artwork to Chief Minister Rio and expressed keen interest in collaborations in animation and creative education, specifically with Nagaland. The expressed investment interest in Nagaland by representatives from Nomura Securities Co. The visit culminated with the signing of Additional Letters of Intent (LoIs), covering a broad spectrum of initiatives. These include sports development, the establishment of an engineering college, student and policy-level exchanges, and multi-sectoral and peace-building initiatives.
