Peren, April 2025: The Zeliang Students’ Union Nagaland (ZLSUN) successfully completed the first phase of its native village outreach programme in Peren district from April 8 to 12, 2025, demonstrating its commitment to community engagement and strengthening grassroots understanding.
“Uniting Roots, Igniting Future” Outreach Programme
The initiative, themed “uniting roots, igniting future”, saw a ZLSUN delegation actively visiting various villages within the Tening and Nsong administrative circles of Peren district.
During the outreach, the delegation engaged in constructive dialogues with key stakeholders in the villages, including village chairmen, school management committee members, and youth and student leaders. These interactions proved invaluable in gaining insights into the specific challenges faced by the local communities and identifying crucial areas for future collaboration and advocacy by the student body.
Key Issues Addressed During the Visitation
Biodiversity Preservation: The ZLSUN urged all villagers to actively participate in the preservation of the rich and unique biodiversity of Peren district.
Concern over Misuse of RTI Act: The union voiced its concern regarding the alleged misuse of the Right to Information (RTI) Act by individuals with vested interests.
Promotion of Education and Skill Development: The ZLSUN strongly encouraged the general public to fully utilize the various government educational institutions and training centers established within the district, emphasizing the vital role of education and skill development in fostering community progress.
Regret over Unvisited Villages
The ZLSUN expressed its regret for being unable to visit the villages of Nkio, Lalong, and Nzauna during this first phase due to adverse road conditions. The union extended its sincere apologies for this unavoidable omission and assured the residents of these villages that efforts will be made to include them in future outreach programmes.
Gratitude and Appeal for Second Phase Support
The ZLSUN extended its heartfelt gratitude to all the host villages for their warm hospitality and for their open and candid sharing of perspectives.
