Nagaland University is set to launch an UnderGraduate program in Basic Sciences from the academic year 2025-26 which is also the first university in the North East states to take up this initiative. This is a wonderful opportunity for the students in Nagaland to expand their horizon in Basic Sciences. 

The University also happens to be the first Central University in the state. It is informed that Nagaland University will launch a Multidisciplinary Research Center offering more programs in Basic Sciences for the students in Nagaland. The undergraduate program will offer courses for both 3 years and 4 years in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology.

Eligibility Criteria for Undergraduate

For a student to be eligible to enroll in the Undergraduate programmer, a candidate must:

1. Secure a first class (60% and above) throughout academics up to class 12 or any other equivalent examination.

2. A candidate must also possess a valid CUET (UG) scorecard in the relevant programs before applying.

 

The undergraduate program will be designed to provide students with a comprehensive education across a diverse range of disciplines, including arts, humanities, languages, natural sciences, and social sciences. It aims to cultivate not only academic knowledge but also a strong sense of social responsibility among students encouraging them to engage thoughtfully and meaningfully in this competitive world.

Along with academic learning, the program emphasizes the development of essential soft skills such as complex problem-solving, critical thinking, creative thinking, and effective communication.

Students can also pursue in-depth specialization through a chosen major and minor subjects, which may be either disciplinary or interdisciplinary. The program offers flexibility by allowing students to change their major in broader fields like  Natural and Physical Sciences, Mathematical, Statistical, Computational Sciences, Library, Information and Media Sciences, Commerce and Management, Humanities and Social Sciences at the end of their first year. This flexibility will support students in exploring various academic paths that will be beneficial for their academic growth.

The Undergraduate Programs will start with an intake capacity of 50 students across all the disciplines during the academic year 2025-26 enabling maximum students to enroll in the courses.

The university also plans to add more programs in future including Integrated Postgraduate Programs in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology. Programs like Postgraduate and  PhD will also be introduced with an emphasis on multidisciplinary research.

The program will continuously evolve to meet the changing needs of students in the state ensuring students are able to shape their educational journey and prepare for the future.
